Gord's message: Cyclon registration deadline is approaching

Our premier cycling event, Cyclon 2023, is fast approaching. Last year we had a wonderful time at Western University in London and we are returning again this year. Unlike last year, which was restricted by the pandemic, this year we still have some spots available. This will be our last time at Western so be sure to claim your spot before the July 16 deadline. See details below.

Enjoy our peak summer riding season, and stay safe out there.

Last chance to sign up for Cyclon 2023; volunteers wanted

Join TBN's premier three-day cycle touring event held August 4-7 in London, Ont. Don't miss out on what could be our last year at Western University, for a very long time. You'll love our selection of cycling routes, Friday night reception, post-ride socials with snacks, fabulous Sunday buffet and dancing, and the company and camaraderie of other cyclists. Registration ends at midnight, July 16. Click here to go to the registration page on the calendar.

To make this year's Cyclon a success, we are in need of volunteers to help with the registration desk, Saturday night dinners, and snacks throughout the weekend. If you can help, please contact Lora Flanagan,  weekendtrips@tbn.ca.

TBN seeking new Cyclon Director

We continue to search for a new Cyclon Director. While Cyclon 2023 is largely planned as it returns to London, Cyclon 2024 is a big question mark. Next year will provide an exciting opportunity as the goal is to take Cyclon to a new location not used before. Cyclon has a strong committee to make it all happen but needs a director to pull it together. If you are interested please contact cyclon@tbn.ca.

TBN volunteers aid Bike for Brain Health

Thanks to all volunteers and members who took part in this year's Bike for Brain Health on June 4, including 58 marshals and ambassadors on the route and three who were kind enough to host the TBN booth at the start and finish. Thousands of Torontonians took advantage of the closure of the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway, doing their part to raise a total of $4.6-million in support of research, innovation, care and education in the field of aging brain health.

Time running out to order your new-style TBN kits

Members are encouraged to show their team colours by ordering a new TBN jersey or other kit items. Unfortunately, for our final order with the manufacturer we need to meet the minimum number of items ordered (10). At the time of editing the CoE (June 21), the total orders placed by item type are the following:

  • short jersey - 4
  • long jersey - 5
  • jacket - 4
  • shorts - 7
  • gilets - 3
  • buffs - 0
To be able to request an order for any of the styles from the manufacturer, we need more members' orders.

To view the size chart and place your order go here. Also check there to see the current status of total FINAL orders.

You will find clickable images for the various items (jerseys, gilets, jackets, shorts). Select each item you wish to order to have them placed in your shopping cart, then submit your order. Orders are inclusive of HST. The next and final order deadline is July 14.

How to cancel a reservation for an event

Due to an issue we have discovered on Apple devices, we have had to revert to the original wording for the link used to cancel your reservation for an event. If you need to cancel your reservation for an event, see the Cancel-my-registration page for details.

Changes to Ride Leaders Report web application

The TBN board recently approved changes to the Ride Leaders Report web application, which will no longer include fields for submitting Ride Leader expenses. Instead, we are asking that Leaders submit an Expense form to the club. Also note that since we are no longer accepting at-start payment of non-member fees, and that all non-members must register, we have removed the fields for "Total fees paid to the ride leader" and the entire non-members section. The bottom of the Ride Leaders Report is now a little simpler. Clicking on the "Click here... " link will open a new browser page and display our Expense Claim form page.

Ride Leaders with questions or issues regarding this new process are asked to contact Technical Director Martin Lansche.

New RideWithGPS features

RideWithGPS has released a new way to browse for routes, based on map location. Using a computer's browser, our TBN routes can be found here. Zoom in to an area you are interested in riding in (for example, we have 19 different routes starting from Edwards Gardens in our library, situated in the first image below). Then select an arrow (if there is only a single route), or if there is a number (as the number 19 here), click on the number and choose from the list that appears (the second image below).

Another way to find a route is to browse the TBN Route Library directly. You can filter based on tags, or search based on strings, or locations.

We are waiving our Non-member ride fees for Evening Rides this summer

Until the end of July, we are waiving the $10 Non-member fees for our Wednesday Evening and Friday Night programmes. Non-members will still have to register, but there is no $10 during this time period. Let's get some new faces trying out our TBN evening rides.

Event registration reminder

Please remember to login to the TBN website prior to registering for our Events. If you are not logged in, the system does not know who you are, and will only offer you the Guest Rider registration choice. Also, when you are logged into the TBN website, a lot of members-only content appears.

Remember to visit the TBN calendar of events to find out more about what's coming up. The little TTC logo below will help alert you to any subway closures.
